Did you know that the United States Coast Guard was created by an act (Title 14 of the United States Code) of the U.S. Congress January 28th, 1915 with the merger of the Revenue Cutter Service and the United States Lifesaving Service. On February 25th, 2003, the Coast Guard became part of the Department of Homeland Security.

Did you know that father’s who support their daughter’s interest in math and science help motivate them to pursue further training and education in those specialties. This research was discussed at the University of Michigan by Pamela Davis-Kean a psychologist at the UM Institute for Social Research. There still is a gender gap in women applying for further training in math and science. Bottom line: dads-start motivating your daughters and get them interested in math and sciences.

Bottom line-parents get involved!!!

Did you know that when parents are actively involved with their children’s education, the children do much better in school. Published in the Spring 2008 issue of the Journal of Human Resources, researcher Karen Smith Conway and her colleagues from the University of New Hampshire found that “parental effort is consistently associated with higher levels of achievement, and the magnitude of the effect of parental effort is substantial.” Bottom line-parents get involved!!!!

Say aurevoir to super thin in France: The French fashion industry teamed up with government officials to sign an agreement stating that they will no longer encourage the extreme thin look and eating disorders to achieve that degree of thinness. French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s legal team is pursuing stiff penalties for those individuals convicted of promoting anorexia with prison time and monetary fines.
